Within every thread of the scarf I don on my head is woven the word ‘freedom’.
Everyday I deviate from societal standards by conforming to those of my Lord –
through this deviation, empowerment has been bestowed upon me – a blessing, minus the sword.
I sat in the room, alone, observing my new dress that I wore, and carefully examining my accessories. I was dressed in the most stylish of clothes with perfect matching accessories, and along with my new haircut, I thought I looked the most beautiful of all.
But would others approve?
Hair needs to be either dead straight or entwined in Goldilocks curls. Anything in between is a no-no. Waves signify complacency and let’s not even get started on the frizz.
