The topic of hijab is one that evokes and provokes. It generates within all of us a plethora of thoughts and emotions. The web and media are replete with opinions of Muslim women and politicians on this sensitive topic. Some non-Muslims have used hijab as a springboard to unleash virile anti-Islamic polemics. Here I wish to share some thoughts on hijab from the perspective of a Muslim male living in America…

They say that I’m oppressed because I cover my hair.
They are misinformed, and by that I swear,
Misinformed because they lack the knowledge that I own
Knowledge that changed throughout the years I’ve grown.

My Lord, I cannot thank you enough for finally opening my heart to put on the hijab. At first I felt it was difficult, but when I took the first step, You opened the doors and made things easy for me. Alhamdulillah.

Everything about her was beautiful. Her face shone as did her character and persona, the way she walked, talked and mostly – her smile.

“I was always told to do this or that, but I was never told why and ironically I never even asked.” This seems to be the major problem in our culturally dominated, Islamically deprived societies, where many a time we are victims of blind following without even asking ourselves, “Why am I doing what I’m doing?”
