I keep trying to decide if I will stay and fight
I know you expect me to tuck my tail and take flight
Not merely a choice it’s obligatory on me
To stand firm and fight for the right to simply be
You say freedom doesn’t exist
Or that it means to do whatever you want
I beg to differ.
Freedom does exist.
I am that Hijab
That cloth, that fabric
That symbol, that fear
In people’s eyes
