Lately, my articles have been Qur’an based and subhanAllah, I just cannot stop. It’s like every time I open my Juz to review a lesson, reminisce, or just for a read, I pick up a new lesson and just want to share. Here’s another one. In Suraht al-Baqarah, verse 214, Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala says, “Do you think that you will enter paradise (without any trials) while you have known the examples of those who passed away before you?”

In Surat al-Baqarah Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala mentions a story of Bani Israel. They asked for a leader so they could fulfill their rights and Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala gave them one – Talut, the best of the kind – yet, they didn’t appreciate him. This story reminded me of each one of us – our inner struggles. Our number one du’aa is to be granted Jannah. We want Jannah and we ask for it all the time, but do we do what is necessary to attain it?

I was discussing with a colleague of mine, she’s non-Muslim and we were talking about the hijab. She does respect my beliefs and values and the fact that I wear the hijab, etc. But what she is having trouble understanding is: Why do Muslim women have to cover the hair? Why the hair especially? She is asking if there is a specific verse in the Quran that says that we need to cover the hair? She said: “Who decided that hair was sexy? Why can’t you just dress modestly without covering the hair?”

How can a sister know if her hijab is correct? The scholars agreed on the following eight conditions regarding hijab. 1) Covering all of the body, 2) The hijab must not be a display, 3) The hijab must not be transparent, 4) Hijab must be loose, and not tight, 5) The hijab must not be perfumed, 6) The hijab shouldn’t resemble the dress of a man, 7) The hijab must not resemble the garments of the kuffar, and 8) The hijab should not be for fame.
