3 Minutes and 56 Seconds.

3 minutes and 56 seconds, that’s all it took. That is all it took for me, in my public speaking class, to stand up in front of a crowd of Non-Muslims, a crowd of people that have been brainwashed for years by the media to believe that Islam oppressive to women, to clarify its beauty to women. To explain that the hijab found in Islam, frees women. I stood there, my voice loud and clear, confidence and passion up, eye contact maintained with my audience, hand gestures utilized at all the right times, and revealed to them, the truth of hijab.

As The Pages Turn

When I hold a good book in my hands, I feel as though I am cradling a life. A life in a different, mystifying world that I chose to be a part of when I gently open its crisp pages and read under a warm, golden light to learn more of its details, complexities and traditions. I read about beautiful characters within the book that, often, are young in the beginning and elderly at the end. Together we walk through their journey in life in their separate world.

How remarkable and astonishing it is that the way Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala created Islam, every detail in it has deeply rooted meanings, values, and effects. So much so, in fact, that each letter found in the Quran is a carefully placed treasure. If anything in it was even slightly altered, misplaced, or mispronounced, this completely changes the original meanings it was intended to have. The hasaanat for pronouncing each letter are also mighty because they are multiplied by ten.

One Thing Always Leads to Another

Each of our lives is sort of like a set of dominos. Once it starts it can never stop until it reaches the end. Time keeps flying by just as dominos continue to incessantly fall on top of one another, one after the other. Not all set of dominos, understandably, are alike. Some end short, others live long. Some are set up plain and straight, others consist of abundant twirls and swirls. Similarly, every Muslimah carries in her hands, her own unique journey in this vast world.
