I remember one sis said that (along these lines) ‘when you are so happy and feel on top of the world, bow down humbly thanking your Lord for allowing you to be at that state. And when you feel so down, then too prostrate to your Lord because He is the only one who can bring you up.’

I was listening to a sheikh recently who had been sick and in the hospital for a few days; he was being interviewing about lessons extracted from his sickness. He said that for a while, he could not pray while standing, so he prayed in a chair. And until that moment, when he was unable to make sujood in his prayer, he did not realize how much actual sujood (putting your forehead to the ground)was a part of salah. Just mimicking sujood while in the chair and bowing your head down – he said he didn’t feel like he was praying. He arranged after that so he could pray sitting on the floor, so he would not miss out on sujood.

You never realize what you’re missing until it’s taken away from you.
